Chile’s copper exports up 6.8% in 2013
(Minews) - Chile’s copper exports increased 6.8% in 2013, compared with the year before, according to data from the country’s copper commission Cochilco.

Exports stood at 5.59 million tonnes last year, up from 5.23 million tonnes in 2012.

Escondida shipped 1.03 million tonnes abroad, up from 902,500 tonnes exported in the same period the previous year.

Collahuasi’s exports rose 15.1% year-on-year to 198,500 tonnes.

Los Pelambres’ exports increased 14.8% year-on-year to 448,900 tonnes.

Codelco’s exports dropped 2.7% last year to 1.6 million tonnes of copper.

Ports in Chile were plagued by a month-long strike that ended on January 26.

“Codelco did not have many problems as it could ship copper cathodes from Mejillones and other ports,” a source at Codelco had told Metal Bulletin days before the strike ended.
Chile’s copper production rose to 5.77 million tonnes in 2013.
