Iran's iron ore concentrate output up
- Major domestic iron ore companies produced 21.32m tons of iron ore concentrates during March 21, 2014-January 20, 2015.
The figure indicates a 6-percent growth compared to the same period the previous year which was 20.1m tons, IMIDRO reported.
The companies included Chadormalou (8.68m tons), Gol-e Gohar (7.17m tons), Markazi (2.15m tons), Middle East Mines and Minerals (2.08m tons) and Sangan (1.22m tons).
During the period, eight major domestic mining companies produced 8.83m tons of iron ore granules.
They included Chadormalou, Gol-e Gohar, Markazi, Sangan, Jalal-Abad, Mishdovan, Sirjan and Iranian Central Plateau Iron Ore Mines Complex.
In October 2014, Sajjad Qoroqi, a member of the Association of Iron Ore Producers and Exporters, said Iran produces two percent of the world’s iron ore.
He noted that Brazil, Australia and South Africa are the world’s major iron ore exporters.
According to the latest report of United States Geological Survey, Iran ranks among the top 10 iron ore producers.
Iran is among the 15 major mineral-rich countries and exports its industrial and mineral products to 159 countries, including Iraq, China, the UAE, India and Afghanistan.
Mineral exports account for about 32 percent of non-oil exports.
