Iran calls for investment in Lake Urmia mineral
(Minews) - The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has called on financiers to invest in a project to utilize the mineral salts such as calcium carbonate, sodium chloride and potassium sulfate in the Lake Urmia, located northwest of the country, Mehr news agency reported.
Lake Urumia, the largest inland lake in Iran (and the third salt-water lake on earth), is in danger of nearly completely drying up.
While some experts believe water transfer from rivers to the lake are worth a try, as it can revive the lake and keep it functional for another ten years, another group argues that as the lake is far from being revived, national resources must not be wasted on such projects.
