Chile’s copper exports up 8.7% in January

(Minews) - Chile’s copper exports increased 8.7% year-on-year in January, according to the country’s copper commission, Cochilco.

Exports stood at 502,500 tonnes for January 2014, up from 462,500 tonnes for January 2013.
Escondida shipped 95,400 tonnes abroad in the month, up from 72,000 tonnes exported in the same period the previous year.

Collahuasi’s exports rose sharply year-on-year to 53,200 tonnes, compared with 15,700 tonnes in January last year.

By contrast, Codelco’s exports dropped 39.1% in January to 80,400 tonnes of copper, partly as a result of month-long port strike in Chile in January.

Los Pelambres’ exports also fell, showing a16.8% year-on-year decline to 36,400 tonnes.
