It will produce 10-40 mm diameter rebar and will focus on the Kazakh market, as well as other Central Asian republics. The mill will source billet from Evraz’s West Siberian Iron & Steel Plant,
ZSMK.

Evraz has invested $131 million in the project and has a 65% stake, while the remainder is held by the Caspian Group Kazakhstan holding company.

The plant was supplied by Siemens SPA.

After the launch of the Kostanay mill, Evraz plans to redirect some of the rebar it had been exporting to Kazakhstan to its domestic Russian market.
