Ministry of industry puts Iran's mineral reserves at 43 bn tons

(Minews) - Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, Jafar Sarqeini, on Monday put Iran's mineral reserves at 43 billion tons.

The former minister of industry, mine and trade under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had put Iran's mineral reserves at around 57 billion tons. It is not clear what has caused this 14-million ton difference.

Sarqeini said that Iran's mineral output reached 400 million tons last year.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, some 5,400 mines were active in Iran last year.

He said that government revenues from mineral industry reached 5.2 trillion rials which shows a 12 percent decrease compared to figures for the preceding year.

Mineral industry's share of Iran's GDP was 0.7% eight years ago, while it rose to 1.2% in the first three quarters of last year.
