Minister: Iran planning to produce 50–60 million tons steel

(Minews) - Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade said on Tuesday that Iran is planning to produce 50-60 million tons steel. The target is available by setting up chain production lines and exploiting the mines in the next 10 years.

Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh said that shortage of iron pellet in the country will be removed by absorbing new investments in this sector.

He underlined avoiding to sell raw mineral materials and added that it is necessary to locate mine projects somewhere close to harbors, transit roads or railways to facilitate fast and easy transport.

No mining project should be stopped and if an owner has not enough ability to continue the project should declare it to the Ministry to find a qualified substitute.

He said that access to vision plan 1404 (next 10 years) to produce 55 million tons steel is accessible by completion of steel production chain and discovery of new mines.

He said that the Ministry intends to introduce new plans in three sectors of automobile, steel and house appliances.

Currently Iran produces less than 17 million tons crude steel and is aiming to produce 55 million tons in 10 years.
