(Minews) - The Brazilian government will launch an investigation to confirm dumping in grooved copper tube exports from the USA, Mexico and China to the country.

The Brazilian foreign trade secretary Secex, is in charge of the process, and intends to ascertain if the tube imports are harmful to the domestic industry.

The analysis will consider the period between January and December 2012.

The investigation will concentrate on grooved tubes used for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC-R.( China was the main exporter of grooved copper tubes in 2012, shipping 3,873 tonnes of material to the South American country.

Mexico came in second with 877 tonnes.
Secex believes that imports from China and Mexico led to a significant fall in the participation of local industry in the domestic market.

“There are sufficient elements of conviction that the injury caused to the domestic industry happened, notably, due to imports from China and Mexico of the investigated product, as the volumes and prices practised in these operations have indications of dumping”, Secex said.

Paranapanema and Termomecanica are among the main copper tube producers in Brazil.
