Iran's steel production capacity to hit 55m tons
(Minews) - A comprehensive steel plan, devised on the basis of 2025 Vision, will be finalized within a month, said the industries, mines and trade minister.

Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh added that Iran’s annual steel production capacity is expected to reach 55 million tons by 2025, stressing that the objective is achievable.

“Based on the comprehensive steel plan, 20 to 25 percent of domestic steel products should be exported,” Wednesday's edition of 'Iran Daily' quoted him as saying.

Nematzadeh said the ministry will not accept foreigners implementing projects in the industry.

The minister, however, noted that Iran can use the capabilities of foreign companies whenever necessary.

“Efforts should be made to find appropriate places for the implementation of steel projects,” he said, stressing that steel projects should be economically viable and serve the national interests.

Nematzadeh said rivalry among domestic companies in the international market is very destructive, adding that some organizations can play a key role in creating coordination among Iranian firms.

Based on statistics released by World Steel Association, Iran produced 16.33 million tons of steel in 2014 and ranked first and 16th in the Middle East and world respectively.

Currently, Iran’s annual steel production capacity stands at 24 million tons.
