Crude steel production tops 9m tons

(Minews) - Iran produced 9.46 million tons of crude steel in the first seven months of 2014 , showing a 9.28-percent rise compared with the corresponding figure of last year, which was 8.66 million tons.

According to the statistics released by World Steel Association (WSA), China topped the list of crude steel producers in the period with 480.76 million tons.

At second, third, fourth and fifth places were Japan, the United States, India and Russia with 64.53 million tons, 51.22 million tons, 48.24 million tons and 41.47 million tons respectively, the report said.
In July, Iran produced 1.45 million tons of crude steel, which is 11.36 percent higher than the corresponding figure of last year, which was 1.30 million tons.

Global steel production in July amounted to 136.81 million tons, which shows a 0.64-percent decline compared with the June output that reached 137.70 million tons.

WSA is the international trade body of the iron and steel industry. The association represents approximately 170 steel producers, including 17 of the world's 20 largest steel companies, national and regional steel associations and steel research institutes.

Its members constitute around 98 percent of world steel production.
